The Sentinel

The Sentinel      I wanted to share the work that me and my senior design team ( Ian Hunter, Tyler Morris, Christopher Kiener ) have been developing since the start of our senior year.      We have been working on a COVID-19 screening device capable of determining more accurately if the user might be infected with COVID-19 than conventional methods. The goal      The goal of the Sentinel is to give a tool to employers, schools, and other institutions to come back to something resembling normality.       We are using three different sensors to determine possible infection: Analyze temperature Blood oxygen levels Sense of smell to be able to give a more accurate result.       Like every project, we have had our ups and downs in the developing and manufacturing process. Last-minute changes and mistakes pushed tea

Finding a Job during COVID-19 as a senior in college

Getting a job after graduation is one part of the American dream as a college student that comes from another country. I have been doing internships in the past three years to get the necessary experience that any employer wants to see in their applicants.       Besides this, I have also been working on my Resume  and  my  LinkedIn profile . Basically, I have been trying to build a well-rounded profile for myself in order to stand out a bit compared to other applicants that are trying to accomplish the same as me.           Also, I have polished  my web page  to highlight a few of my life accomplishments in academics and sailing.      Nevertheless, I am getting closer to graduating and I have not heard back from any of the multiple jobs that I have applied for.  This is a major setback for my career, but I have to realize that these are hard times for everyone trying to find a job. Me, as an almost graduate with limited experience in the field might not

Experience as an Intern

Internship Experience Looking for an internship can be sometimes frustrating. There is a lot of opportunities out there, but sometimes it is very hard to find one for you. I think that if you are looking to be an engineer, any kind of engineering job can help you get experience. For example, I am studying mechanical engineering at Jacksonville University and my first internship was at a civil engineering company      In general, most of the engineers have to deal with similar working environments and tasks. As a ME, you could be designing the newest medical equipment on specific software or actually machining a new part that you are working on. As a CE, instead of creating a piece of new medical equipment you could be designing the infrastructure of a building or inspecting the ground of a new construction. In general, you can relate most tasks with other branches of engineering without getting into sp
