Typical Weekend of College Sailing Regattas

Image
Sailing has been a passion for me since I was seven. The fact that I can still do it today and study my career is amazing. Being on a collegiate sailing team is more than just sailing with a couple of friends several days a week and then focusing on your career. It is more like most sports teams where your teammates become your best friends. Here is where traveling with the team becomes an experience that brings you some of the best memories of my college career.        All college sailing regattas are organized by ICSA which is the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association. Also, the country is divided into several conferences that later in the year meet in bigger regattas. My conference is the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association or SAISA . Most regattas we take a part of are within our conference, but we also go to inter-conference regattas. The team has been gaining experience in the past years and have pushed the school to the top 20 nationwide.        Every trip wi

Experience as an Intern

Internship Experience Looking for an internship can be sometimes frustrating. There is a lot of opportunities out there, but sometimes it is very hard to find one for you. I think that if you are looking to be an engineer, any kind of engineering job can help you get experience. For example, I am studying mechanical engineering at Jacksonville University and my first internship was at a civil engineering company      In general, most of the engineers have to deal with similar working environments and tasks. As a ME, you could be designing the newest medical equipment on specific software or actually machining a new part that you are working on. As a CE, instead of creating a piece of new medical equipment you could be designing the infrastructure of a building or inspecting the ground of a new construction. In general, you can relate most tasks with other branches of engineering without getting into sp

There is a million ways to pay for college

Scholarships for College          College is could get really expensive, this is a fact. Since I was getting ready for college, I had to look to the most affordable career that would get me the best experience and qualification for the real world. I created my web page since I was in high school where I have a summary of my life, kind of a resume but not formal, where I have from education and sports activities and accomplishments to a draft of my professional career. Also, I included a bunch of scholarships that I applied in order to lower the cost of my education.       Since I created this web page that was initially for the mere purpose of having a simple way of showing others what my life has been about, I have been getting a lot of requests from scholarships to post their offers on my page. This a way of reaching out to young people that are looking at how to pay for their education and find it on as many pages that relate to us as possible. Since then, I added a whole s

Engineering Student during the Covid-19 crisis

As an ME student, being able to complete my junior year online was a challenging experience. When you become an upperclassman in college, at least in engineering, your normal classes become more real. Instead of taking history or English, I was taking manufacturing or mechatronics. This meant that all the school work was starting to be more like what I am going to be experiencing in real life. There was almost no homework, but the amount of workload was even more. It all translated into projects that we had to build and more hands-on tasks that would help us with the designing of products in the future. This was a really exciting experience while it lasted. It pushed our limits to something new that with the other subjects in college you would be okay with just googling or reading that part of the book. I would say that here is where the real engineering career begins. Working online with Fusion 360 All of a sudden, this global pandemic hits the human race. At first everything s
